The First Lady of the United States of America, Jill Biden, tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday (4/9).
"Tonight, the First Lady tested positive for Covid-19. She is currently experiencing mild symptoms of Covid-19. She will be quarantined at her home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware," Jill's spokeswoman, Elizabeth Alexander, said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the White House confirmed that her husband, President Joe Biden, who is now 80 years old, tested negative for Covid-19.
The White House ensures that the president's schedule has not changed. The US presidential office also said that no health protocols had changed as a result of this news. Jill Biden tested positive for Covid-19 when her husband was facing a busy domestic and foreign agenda starting from his Labor Day speech to the G20 Summit in India on Thursday this week.
In the summer of last August, Jill Biden also tested positive for Covid-19 while on vacation in South Carolina. Meanwhile, Joe Biden tested positive for Covid-19 last July. Both experienced re-transmission of Covid-19 or rebound cases of Covid-19 after being treated with Paxlovid, according to CNN.
Jill Biden's Covid-19 diagnosis took place amid renewed concern over the development of the new Covid-19 approaching its fourth season since the virus emerged and sparked a pandemic in late 2019.
US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data in early summer showed a slight increase in hospital admissions, emergency room visits and positive Covid-19 test results, though not as high as last summer.

Sementara itu, Gedung Putih memastikan sang suami, Presiden Joe Biden yang kini berusia 80 tahun dinyatakan negatif Covid-19.
Gedung Putih memastikan tidak ada jadwal yang berubah dari sang presiden. Kantor kepresidenan AS itu pun mengatakan tidak ada protokol kesehatan yang berubah akibat berita ini.
Jill Biden positif Covid-19 ketika sang suami tengah menghadapi agenda dalam negeri dan luar negeri yang padat mulai dari pidato Hari Buruh hingga KTT G20 di India pada Kamis pekan ini.
Pada musim panas Agustus lalu, Jill Biden juga sempat positif Covid-19 ketika berlibur di South Carolina. Sementara itu, Joe Biden positif Covid-19 pada Juli lalu.
Keduanya mengalami penularan Covid-19 kembali atau rebound Covid-19 case setelah diobati menggunakan Paxlovid, menurut CNN.
Diagnosis Covid-19 Jill Biden ini berlangsung di tengah muncul kekhawatiran baru terhadap perkembangan Covid-19 baru mendekati musim keempat sejak virus tersebut muncul dan memicu pandemi pada akhir 2019 lalu.
Data Pusat Pengendalian dan Pencegahan Penyakit AS (CDC) pada awal musim panas menunjukkan sedikit peningkatan dalam penerimaan rumah sakit, kunjungan unit gawat darurat, dan hasil tes positif Covid-19, meskipun tidak setinggi pada musim panas lalu.
