The Healing Rate Of Patients With Acute Kidney Disorders Increases
The number of patients with Atypical Progressive Acute Kidney Disorder (ARF) who are cured continues to grow. The Indonesian Ministry of Health reported that as of October 31, 2022, there were 304 cases of GGAPA, of which 99 patients (33%) were declared cured. This figure has increased in the last one week, where the reported cure rate on October 26, 2022 was 39 cases.
"There was a significant increase during this one week from the previous 20% to 33% of patients who were declared cured," said the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, dr. Muhammad Syahril in Jakarta (31/10).
Meanwhile, 65 of these cases are still under treatment, and 153 cases of death are recorded (CFR 51%). Cases of Acute Kidney Disorders in Children mostly occurred in children aged 1-5 years as many as 173 cases. Most cases were recorded in the provinces of DKI Jakarta, West Java, Aceh, East Java, West Sumatra, Banten, and Bali.
dr. Syahril added, there was a significant decrease in GGAPA cases in children after the Circular (SE) of the Director General of Health Services per 18 October 2022 which asked health workers and pharmacies not to give medicine in the form of syrup to the public.
Anticipatory policies continue to be carried out by the Ministry of Health in reducing morbidity and mortality due to GGAPA in Indonesia. One of them is by bringing in hundreds of vials of the antidote (antidote) Fomepizole injection imported from Singapore, Australia, Canada, and Japan.
"A total of 146 vials have been distributed to 17 hospitals in 11 provinces, while 100 vials are kept as stock at the central pharmacy installation," explained Spokesman Syahril.
Hospitals that have received Fomepizole distribution are RSUD Zainoel Abidin Aceh; RSUP Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah, Bali; RSUP Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta; RSAB Harapan Kita, RSUP Fatmawati, and RSCM Jakarta; Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Dr. Hafiz and RSU Hermina Mekarsari, West Java; Bangli Hospital and Dr. Saiful Anwar, East Java; Hospital Dr. Soedarso Pontianak, West Kalimantan; Kuala Pembuang Hospital, Central Kalimantan; RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo, South Sulawesi; RSUP Dr. M Djamil, West Sumatra; RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, South Sumatra; and H. Adam Malik Hospital, North Sumatra.
Another effort is the issuance of instructions for the use of syrup to children in the context of preventing the increase in cases of Atypical Progressive Acute Kidney Disorder (GGAPA) No. HK.02.02/III/3515/2022 on October 24, 2022, addressed to all health offices, health service facilities, and health professional organizations.
Most recently, on October 26, 2022, the Ministry of Health has also updated the Decree of the Director General of Health and Safety on the Management of Atypical Progressive Acute Kidney Disorders in Children at Hospital No. HK.02.02/III/3542/2022, with the addition of the administration of Fomepizole.
Finally, Spokesman Syahril emphasized that the support of all parties will also determine the success of handling GGAPA in Indonesia.
"It is hoped that all parties can synergize and collaborate to save the lives of Indonesian children as a top priority. Our goal is for the future health of our children," closed Spokesperson Syahril.
