8 Foods Mentioned Qur'an Qur'an, Their Benefits are Extraordinary

The Qur'an not only discusses the oneness of Allah and the obligations that Muslims must carry out. It also mentions several useful foods that can be consumed by humans. 

Starting from fruits in heaven to healthy spices found in the verses of the Qur'an. Here are 8 foods in the Qur'an that have health benefits for humans.

Foods mentioned in the Qur'an include bananas, grapes, dates and honey. Following are the benefits contained in some of these foods.

1. Banana

The Qur'an The Qur'an mentions in general terms the fruits eaten by the inhabitants of heaven. Quoting The Healthy Muslim page, bananas are specifically mentioned in Surah Al Waqiah verse 29. 

وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ () فِي سِدْرٍ مَخْ ضُودٍ () وَطَلْحٍ مَنْضُودٍ () وَظِلٍّ مَمْدُودٍ
Waashhabul Yamini ma Ashhabul Yamin. Fi Sidrim Makhdud. Wa thalhim mandhud. Wa dzillim mamdud. 
Meaning: "And the right group, how happy the right group is. Being among bidara trees that have no thorns. And banana trees that have rows (of fruit). And shade that stretches wide." (Al waqiah 27-30)
Bananas contain potassium and vitamin B6 which are good to consume as an addition to breakfast or morning snack. Apart from that, the potassium content is also important for fluid balance and nerve function and helps keep muscles and bones working well. The content of several types of strong antioxidants such as flavonoids and amines has many health benefits, such as reducing the risk of heart disease and degenerative diseases. 

2. Pomegranate

Apart from bananas, pomegranates are also mentioned in the  Qur'an as a fruit in heaven. In verse 68 of Surah Ar Rahman, two gardens of paradise are mentioned in which there are fruits. 


فِيْهِمَا فَاكِهَةٌ وَّنَخْلٌ وَّرُمَّانٌۚ۝٦٨
"In both there are fruits, dates and pomegranates"

Pomegranates contain lots of vitamin C which is important for various functions in the body. This vitamin plays a role in the formation of collagen to maintain muscles, bones, skin, and plays an important role in the absorption of iron. 

3. Dates

Dates are the plant most frequently mentioned in the  Qur'an Qur'an. Previously reported by CNBC Indonesia, in the book Mu'jam Al-Mufahras li A;-Fahzil Qur'an, 'Abd al Baqi explained that dates are mentioned 20 times in 16 letters in the  Qur'an Qur'an. 
Apart from being mentioned together with pomegranates in Surah Ar Rahman, dates are also mentioned in Surah Maryam verses 23 and 25. These verses tell the story of the suffering and pain that Maryam felt when she was about to give birth. 
فَاَجَاۤءَهَا الْمَخَاضُ اِلٰى جِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِۚ قَالَتْ يٰلَي ْتَنِيْ مِتُّ قَبْلَ هٰذَا وَكُنْتُ نَسْيًا مَّنْسِيًّا۝٢٣
"Then the pain of childbirth forced her (to lean) against the base of a date palm tree, she (Maryam) said, "O, it would be (better) that I died before this, and I became someone who was not noticed and forgotten."
وَهُزِّيْٓ اِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ تُسٰقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَب ًا جَنِيًّاۖ۝٢٥
"And shake the base of the date palm tree towards you, surely (the tree) will shed ripe dates on you."
This fruit contains high fiber and antioxidants. One of the antioxidants in dates is phenolic acid. This substance can help reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. 
Not only that, according to laboratory studies, dates are useful in reducing inflammatory markers such as interleukin 6 (IL-6) in the brain. It is important to note that high levels of IL-6 are associated with a higher risk of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's. 

4. Grapes

Another food mentioned in the  Qur'an is grapes. In Surah Al Mu'minun verse 19. Allah says:
Facebook لَكُمْ فِيْهَا فَوَاكِهُ كَثِيْرَةٌ وَّمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُوْنَۙ۝١٩
Meaning: Then, with that (water) We grew for you gardens of date palms and grapes. There you get a lot of fruit and some of it you eat. 
Grapes are very popular thanks to their high antioxidant content. Its flavonoids have been shown to be beneficial in mitigating oxidative damage which some studies have linked to cancer-fighting properties. 

5. Olives

Olives are mentioned seven times in the  Qur'an. This shows that olives are an important fruit in the history of the development of Islam. One mention of olives is in the letter Al Mu'minum verse 20. 
وَشَجَرَةً تَخْرُجُ مِنْ طُوْرِ سَيْنَاۤءَ تَنْۢبُتُ بِالدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِّلْاٰكِلِيْنَ۝٢٠
Meaning: And a wood tree came out of Thursina (olive tree), which produces oil, and is food for those who eat. 
Olive oil contains high levels of monounsaturated fatty acids, namely around 75%. When replacing saturated fat, monounsaturated fat from olives helps lower bad cholesterol. 
This fruit also contains essential fatty acids. This substance is good for heart and brain function, as well as polyphenols which have antioxidant properties. 

6. Figs

Not only is it mentioned in a verse, figs are the name of a letter in the  Qur'an Qur'an. Allah swears by figs and olives in the first verse of Surah Attin. In Islamic tradition, whatever name is used to swear an oath by Allah has greatness attached to it. 
وَالتِّيْنِ وَالزَّيْتُوْنِۙ۝١
Meaning: "By figs and olives."
Figs have a high fiber content which can help maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Magnesium also plays an important role in bone health and energy balance. 
Dried figs contain omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, phytosterols which are cardioprotective and help improve brain health. 

7. Ginger

Not only fruit, ginger is also mentioned in the  Qur'an Qur'an in surta al Insan verse 17 which describes heaven. This verse tells about the inhabitants of heaven who were given a glass of drink mixed with ginger. 
وَيُسْقَوْنَ فِيْهَا كَأْسًا كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا زَنْجَبِيْلًاۚ۝١٧
"And there they were given a glass of drink mixed with ginger." - QS Al Insan verse 17. 

According to the Salams Says page, ginger can help improve digestion, reduce nausea, fight flu, help lose weight, and reduce osteoarthritis pain. Ginger can also be used to treat eczema and psoriasis. 

8. Honey

The special qualities of honey are explained in the  Qur'an  Surah An Nahl (Bees) in verse 69. It is stated that in honey there is a medicine that heals humans. 
ثُمَّ كُلِى مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ فَٱسْلُكِى سُitor نُهُۥ فِيهِ شِفَآءٌ لِّلنَّاسِ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَ compared
Meaning: "From the stomach of the bee comes out a drink (honey) of various colors, in which there is a healing medicine for humans. Indeed, in that there really is a sign (of God's greatness) for those who think."
Honey has antibacterial and antifungal properties. This content can kill unwanted bacteria and fungi, prevent infection and speed up wound healing. 
Honey is also rich in antioxidants which are useful for reducing the risk of heart disease. Several studies also show that honey can prevent memory disorders and treat wounds.
