– Glaucoma is an eye disease that occurs when the pressure in the eyeball gradually increases, causing damage to the optic nerve. This can result in vision loss, and if left untreated, glaucoma can cause permanent blindness.

Glaucoma often does not cause symptoms in the early stages, so it is often diagnosed at an advanced stage. Therefore, regular eye examinations are very important to detect glaucoma early.

Ages 40 years and over are people who are susceptible to glaucoma. Genetic factors can also cause a person to develop glaucoma. Prof. DR. Dr Widya Artini Wiyogo as Head of Glaucoma Service, JEC Group said that diabetes sufferers must be careful because they are also susceptible to glaucoma.
Doctor Ike, his nickname, said that glaucoma has the potential to have a more fatal impact than cataracts. This is because glaucoma cannot be rehabilitated. However, the fatal impact can be prevented, namely permanent blindness.

There are two types of glaucoma, namely congenital glaucoma and juvenile glaucoma. Congenital glaucoma is a newborn baby with impaired aqueous humor flow. Meanwhile, juvenile glaucoma is open angle glaucoma in children and young adults.

Doctor Ike revealed that there are several ways to treat glaucoma. These methods include therapy, surgery, laser and medication.

If you have glaucoma, it is important to start treatment immediately. Treatment will not repair any damage to your vision, but it can prevent it from getting worse.
Prescription eye drops are the most common treatment. This medication reduces pressure in the eye and prevents damage to the optic nerve.

Laser treatment to reduce eye pressure. Doctors can use a laser to help remove fluid from the eye. This is a simple procedure that doctors can do in hospital.
The next way to treat glaucoma is by surgery. If medications and laser treatments don't work, your doctor may recommend surgery. There are several different types of surgery that can help remove fluid from the eye.
