5 Scientific Ways to Maintain Eye Health
Avoid rubbing your eyes. Have your eyes checked regularly with an ophthalmologist.

-- When their eyesight decreases, there are people who look for alternative ways to restore eye health. They hope to be able to take off their glasses for the rest of their lives.

Is there anything that can be done to restore the eyes? Senior consultant ophthalmologist, Kamineni Hospitals. LB Nagar, Hyderabad, Dr Y Jayapal Reddy says some lifestyle changes may have a positive impact on overall eye health.
"But the belief that you can completely eliminate the need for glasses just through these lifestyle changes is generally inaccurate," says Reddy.
Reddy said the belief that there is a natural path to seeing clearly again without the help of glasses is often based on anecdotes and misinformation rather than scientific evidence. Vision problems such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism are mainly caused by the shape of the lens and cornea.

Lifestyle changes may help slow the progression of myopia in some cases, especially in children. Doctor Reddy suggests the following steps to maintain eye health:
1. Regular eye examinations
The first step to maintaining good eye health is to schedule regular eye exams with an ophthalmologist. A comprehensive eye exam can accurately assess your vision and identify any potential problems.
2. Corrective lenses
If you need corrective lenses to see clearly, it is very important to wear them as prescribed. "Not wearing the right lenses can cause eye strain and further worsen your vision," says Reddy.
3. Healthy lifestyle
While a healthy lifestyle can contribute to overall well-being, it is important to note that certain changes may not directly impact the need for glasses.
"Nonetheless, maintaining a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, staying hydrated, and exercising regularly can support eye health," says Reddy.
