Penyusunan PKM kata dia sama seperti skripsi.
Nidya's story about making an "AI" application, being able to graduate without a thesis from Unair
- Graduating without a thesis can be felt by Airlangga University (Unair) student Nidya Almira Xavier Herda Putri.
Nidya can graduate without a thesis from creating applications based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
This 2018 Faculty of Psychology student was declared to have graduated from college after the results of his work in the Karsa Cipta Student Creativity Program (PKM) were converted.
According to him, converting a thesis with PKM is a new and challenging thing. Because according to him, PKM research is as difficult as thesis research.
“I feel that converting my thesis with PKM is one of the privileges I have to experience the 'thesis with an upgraded level'. "What this means is that I feel that what I did during PKM was more or less the same as what I should have done when working on my thesis," he said as quoted from the Unair website.
Nidya admitted that at first she didn't think about converting her thesis. However, since joining the Garuda Sakti Unair organization, he has learned a lot about PKM and tried to get involved directly.
He said that PKM preparation is the same as a thesis. So there is making a proposal containing background to methods, guidance with lecturers, all the way to the trial and preparing the final report.
"The difference is, in this PKM I even received exclusive guidance from the supervisory team from Unair in the form of monthly monitoring and evaluation, financial assistance from the government, and I was able to experience firsthand the feeling of a trial in front of reviewers from outside the region," he explained.
Create an AI application to replace the thesis
Nidya herself created a self-care application based on artificial intelligence (AI) as an effort to reduce the risk of depression for teenagers which she named Sejati.
The application prototype with complete features has been tested by several people with predetermined and adjusted criteria.
"This application consists of features in the form of self-care activity recommendations, mental health articles, mood tracker, and ENO Chatbot, the main artificial intelligence feature that can listen to stories from users," explained Nidya.
Nidya said the reason for conducting research was to reduce the risk of depression because depression is a mental disorder with the highest prevalence in Indonesia, especially for teenagers. He hopes that his application can continue to be developed.
"ENO is the main feature because the hope is that this chatbot can be a story friend for its users. So, they can feel heard anytime and anywhere. "In the long term, I also hope that this application can reduce the stigma of mental health in Indonesia," he said.
He hopes that a thesis conversion program like this can become a milestone for a climate of academic freedom on campus.
“Hopefully the students can focus on more practical experiences and give them space to develop themselves in any form. "Of course, without reducing the essence and benefits they will get," he said.
